“Capturing the mood and atmosphere of the day in vibrant colour.”
Paul Raymonde is a live event painter. He has the rare ability to portray a moving scene in just a few hours. Paul is in demand to capture the mood and atmosphere of your special day in his own unique, lively style of watercolour. He has been a professional artist for more than 30 years, and is well known for his striking depictions of people and city life. A painting by him is a vibrant and beautifully crafted memento with which to remember any notable event.
Paul started by working as a cartoonist and illustrator for newspapers and magazines and then ran a decorative painting company specialising in trompe l’oeil and murals, and even won a commission from the Tate Gallery to decorate the walls for the Grand Tour Exhibition in 1997. Throughout this time he has regularly appeared at weddings and corporate events drawing live caricatures of the guests. These days he spends more time fulfilling his passion for watercolour by painting live at events and holding plein-air watercolour workshops in Barcelona.
Some time ago a friend asked him to come and paint at her wedding in order to try to catch the mood as the day unfolded. It was amazingly popular with the guests and of course, the finished artwork made a fabulous memento to remind them of the day. Since then Paul has been offering live paintings as an event service and has appeared not only at weddings but at other types of functions including birthday parties, barmitzvahs and corporate events.
The Painting
Paul works rapidly at an easel which allows guests to watch the artwork unfold. This in itself offers a fascinating attraction and tantalising entertainment inspiring interest and conversation for guests.
At live events, Paul paints in vibrant watercolour on rough textured cotton rag paper. As an artist he specialises in watercolour, one of the trickiest painting techniques to master. Watercolour is however lightweight and less messy than other mediums, and it is also quick drying and odourless, making it ideal for live painting. Used properly it produces a clean and spontaneous image in less time than other methods of painting. Clients can then pack it and take it away immediately.
After Event Painting
If the event has already passed and but would still like a painting to celebrate the day Paul can work from photos.
A painting made from a photo will not necessarily be an exact copy but an inspired interpretation. It will be primarily a work of art and a colourful decorative adjunct that will enrich your environment and evoke fond memories of that day.
